Playback & Audio

How do I quickly switch chapters without Dedicated Previous/Next buttons?

Swipe to switch: Swipe left or right directly on the chapter title in the center of the player to move to the next or previous chapter. You can also tap the chapter title to expand the full chapter list. This gesture works in both the full player and the mini player.

Can I fine-tune playback speed by 0.05x steps?

Yes. Open the speed and volume panel in the player. While the slider moves in 0.1x steps, tapping the tortoise icon at the left decreases speed by 0.05x, and tapping the hare icon at the right increases it by 0.05x.

How do I keep different playback speeds for different books?

Open the speed and volume panel and tap the Book Scope button in the top-right corner of the panel. When active, speed and volume adjustments are saved exclusively for the current title, leaving global defaults unchanged.

Can I automatically skip recurring intros and outros in each chapter?

Yes. In the player toolbar or on the book details page, tap the more menu (…) and select "Chapter Skip Settings" to configure custom opening and ending skip durations for that specific title.

Why does CarPlay pause playback instead of lowering volume (ducking) during navigation?

Still adheres to Apple's Human Interface Guidelines for Spoken Audio. Unlike background music, audiobooks are dialogue-driven; ducking often makes both spoken words and navigation prompts unintelligible. Pausing ensures no story content is missed, which is the standard behavior across Apple Books and Audible.

If you prefer uninterrupted playback: You can configure your navigation app to output voice guidance through the media audio channel (e.g. in Amap: Settings → Navigation Settings → More → CarPlay Settings → Media Channel).

Connection & Authentication

How do I connect to a server behind Cloudflare Zero Trust or reverse proxies?

Still supports custom HTTP request headers. On the login screen, tap the settings (gear) icon in the top-right corner to open Advanced Connection Settings. From there, you can add custom headers such as CF-Access-Client-Id and CF-Access-Client-Secret, or enable plain HTTP connections if required.

Does Still support OpenID Connect (OIDC / SSO) login, and how do I configure it?

Still natively supports OIDC authentication (Authentik, Keycloak, Authelia, PocketID, etc.) when enabled on your Audiobookshelf server. Please check the following:

  1. Whitelist the Redirect URI: In your identity provider or ABS settings, add Still's mobile callback URI: stillapp://oauth.
  2. HTTPS Required: Modern OIDC specifications require your server connection to use HTTPS.
  3. Behind Cloudflare: If your SSO or ABS server is behind Cloudflare Zero Trust, configure custom headers via the settings icon in the top-right corner before signing in.

Shortcuts & Automations

How can I automatically switch between local LAN and remote server addresses based on Wi-Fi?

Still provides a native "Switch Server" action for Apple Shortcuts. You can automate address switching seamlessly:

  1. Open the iOS Shortcuts app, go to the Automation tab, and tap +.
  2. Select Wi-Fi, pick your home network, and set it to "Run Immediately".
  3. Add the action: Search for Still and select "Switch Server", then choose your LAN address.
  4. Create a second automation triggered by leaving your home Wi-Fi to switch back to your public domain.

How do I automatically set a sleep timer when listening at night?

Using the native "Start Sleep Timer" Shortcuts action, you can set up effortless bedtime protections:

  • Sleep Focus automation: In Shortcuts → Automation, trigger Still's "Start Sleep Timer" (e.g. 30 minutes or End of Chapter) whenever your Sleep Focus turns on.
  • Time-based automation: Trigger the timer automatically when opening Still after 11:00 PM.
  • Bedtime shortcut: Combine "Resume Playback" and "Start Sleep Timer" into a single tap on your Home Screen or iPhone Action Button.
